digital ad requirements

General specs [TOP]
PDFs are preferred for black & white and full color ads only. A PDF will not separate to spot color.

InDesign and Quark files also accepted. MAC format only.

We cannot accept Microsoft documents: Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

Include printed composite with all digital ads.

Negatives: right-reading, emulsion down accepted, but not encouraged.

All ads must be exact size.

SCANNING
Halftones - min. 200 dpi., 300 dpi preferred
Bitmap - minimum 600 dpi
85 lpi (line screen)
EPS files must be BINARY

All email ads must be accompanied with ad information: publication, size, date, contact, color, etc. and be accompanied by faxed composite.

PDF File requirements [TOP]
PDF FILES PREFERRED (B&W and Full Color)

Adobe Acrobat .pdf created with Adobe Distiller.

Distiller Job Options: must embed all fonts! Do not downsample resolution. Compression is preferred.

A composite of the ad must be faxed to your ad representative to be submitted with an insertion order to Art Department.
PDFs are NOT accepted for SPOT COLOR ADS.

COLOR:
PDF can be used for Greyscale & Full Color ONLY! A .pdf will not separate to spot color. Full color must be CMYK color build, not Pantone. Black type must separate onto black plate only (not a build on all 4 plates.)

If you have a spot color ad, you must compress the document, fonts, etc. in a file less than 3 MB to email. If file is larger, you must send in more than one email. FTP site is available for larger files, consult your ad representative.

INDESIGN CS2 FILES (preferred for spot color)

• InDesign files may be sent compressed (less than 5 MB) via email, on zip or CD.
• Include all fonts, tiffs, eps’, etc. necessary for output - MAC fonts only.
• A composite of the ad must be faxed to your ad representative to be submitted with an insertion order to Art Department.

QUARK FILE 6.5 FILES

• Quark files may be sent compressed (less than 5 MB) via email, on zip or CD. Include all fonts, tiffs, eps’, etc. necessary for output -MAC fonts only.
• FTP site is available for larger files, consult your ad representative.
  

PHOTOSHOP CS2 PSD FILES

• Only acceptable if InDesign, Quark or a PDF making program is not available.
• Make sure file is CMYK before any manipulation with type or vector files. Do not change from RGB to CMYK at the end of working on a document or the type will not read as black and the file will not separate correctly for printing.

COLOR:

• FULL COLOR - CMYK process separation (must be a build, no pantone)
• SPOT COLOR INSIDE PAGE - 1 black plate, 1 color plate (set up as spot color, not process separation)
• SPOT COLOR BACK PAGE - spot colors must be process separation (CMYK color build). We need all four plates.
